About

A comprehensive introduction to Relational Life Therapy can be found in the book Fierce Intimacy by Terry Real.

Terry Real explains, "For most of us, learning to live relationally—practicing relational mindfulness, living with boundaries, exhibiting healthy self-esteem, committing to full-respect living, trading in five losing strategies for five winning ones—takes a few years. I tell clients it’s on a par with learning any complex skill in adulthood, like how to ski or play the piano. That’s the bad news. But there are a couple of pieces of good news as well. First, you needn’t spend those three to five years in therapy. RLT therapy generally lasts a matter of weeks, not months or years. The practice of relational mindfulness occurs mostly outside the office, and after a time, the client begins to work through his or her own process. Second, the practice of stopping oneself, taking a breath, and changing course allows us to begin using all of the skills involved in learning to live relationally, and these skills, starting with relational mindfulness itself, are so effective and so wildly different from what happens in the culture at large that even doing them badly will transform our relationships."

What It's Good For

  • Gain powerful insights, create lasting change, and integrate healthy relational skills into your daily life.
  • Address your most pressing concerns, targeting problem behaviors, core issues, and past traumas.
  • Reconnect, navigate infidelity and trust issues, deepen intimacy, improve communication, and strengthen relational integrity.
  • Develop a sense of warmth and regard for yourself, your partner, and your relationship.

Break Free From Destructive Relational Patterns

As an RLT-informed therapist, I am committed to helping couples break free from destructive relational patterns and build stronger, more connected partnerships. The first session is typically a two-hour assessment, during which we will explore your relational dynamics and the “losing strategies” that may be keeping you stuck. From there, I will offer a clear roadmap for growth, providing hands-on coaching and structured guidance as we work together to shift problematic patterns and cultivate a healthy, thriving relationship.

RLT goes beyond immediate conflicts—it helps you understand the root causes of relational struggles, including past traumas and family-of-origin influences. By shifting your relational template, you not only improve your marriage but also enhance your connections with yourself, your children, and even your extended family.

This is not a passive model of therapy. It is an engaged, active process where I work alongside you to help you build a foundation of mutual respect, deeper connection, and relational integrity. I look forward to supporting you on this journey toward a healthier, more fulfilling relationship.
